Plant Care FAQs

How often should I water?

Watering needs depend on sunlight, container size, and plant type. The best way to know if your planter needs water is to check the soil: insert your finger 1½–2 inches down. If it's moist, wait. If it's dry, water thoroughly until water starts to drain from the bottom of the planter.

Best practices & tips:

  • Water the soil not the leaves! Water evenly across the whole container (not just the center) to encourage healthy root growth.

  • Water in early morning or evening—avoid the heat of the day.

  • Let excess water drain freely; avoid standing water unless using a self-watering container.

  • Smaller containers dry out faster than larger ones, and full-sun planters need more frequent watering than shaded ones.

  • Watering deeply and less frequently is better than lightly and often.

Seasonal guide:

  • Spring: Water 2-3x/week; increase as temperatures warm.

  • Summer: Water 3-4x/week; check daily in hot weather.

  • Fall: Water 2x/week, increasing to 3x if consistently dry.

  • Winter: Water weekly unless soil is frozen.

Do I need to fertilize?

Yes! We add a slow-release fertilizer to all our seasonal arrangements before delivery or installation.

To keep your plants thriving, apply an all-purpose water-soluble fertilizer at half strength once a week throughout the season.

What other maintenance is needed?

Deadheading spent blooms encourages more flowers and extends the blooming season—gently pinch them off by hand or snip with clean garden shears. Also remove any yellowing or damaged leaves to keep your planter looking its best. For professional biweekly, monthly, or seasonal maintenance services, reach out - we are happy to help!
